Apple Acquires Online Mapping Company Poly9

It does seem that Apple and Google are beginning to compete against each other more and more, and now word is out that Apple has acquired a Canadian firm called Poly9, which has been credited with developing many web-based mapping programs, many of those in Flash. Could this acquisition result is a competitor to Google Earth or Google Maps? One of the company's products is the Poly9 Globe, which is touted as a cross-browser, cross-platform 3D globe which doesn't need to be downloaded. Users are treated to a 3D rendering of Earth, and it includes high-resolution imagery for US metropolitan areas. Sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it?
