DJ Max Technika: Really Cool
Think of DJ Max Technika as the totally fun arcade version of Elite Beat Agents (EBA). The cabinet features two displays, a 22″ touch-sensitive display for the player to operate, while a larger 32-incher lets the audience follow the action. Built-in lights and bass-heavy speakers help build the illusion you’re a DJ creating a catchy tune.

Like EBA, Technika involves tapping the screen at the right place, at the right time. Variations on this basic gameplay mechanic are dragging from one point to another, holding down for a certain amount of time, and tapping the same place repetitively in tune with the beat. Someone online helpfully recorded his (or her) Technika game, but I hope to upload my own soon.

Unlike EBA, you use your fingers to tap instead of a stylus, and this allows for some challenging segments, where both hands become necessary to tap and drag different portions of the screen simultaneously.
I found myself bobbing my head while tapping the screen, but it’s very easy to get caught in the beat and forget to time your taps properly. It seems quite a number of people have already mastered the game, and all I could do was drop my jaw as I saw them tapping and dragging on the display furiously.
Definitely worth your hard-earned arcade money! Just make sure you bring hand sanitizer for cleaning up if you end up playing this game at your local arcade, as you’ll be touching a screen that everyone has.
